Mount Oros, sanctuary of Hellanios Zeus, is a long extinct volcano, 532 metres high, A tiny chapel crowns this, the highest mountain on the island and on it's lower slopes stands the church of Taxiarchis on an ancient site, which is currently the subject of a research project. Beside it rises a wide-stepped road and a plygonal wall of the Hellenistic period."
