Aegina town, where the main port is , is 14 kms from Aghia Marina and
can be easily reached by local bus. The fish market on the front, opposite
the harbour is worth a visit. The harbour is crescent shaped and there
are plenty of cafes and tavernas.
The town of Aegina is built in a neo-classical style. Wander through
the little streets behind the boulevard and go around for some nice
shopping.
Pass the time watching the small fishing boats (caiques) unloading,
and in the evening you can watch the sun set on the waterfront, perhaps
joining the locals over a glass of Ouzo. At the southern end of town
is the statue of Capodistrias - hero of the struggle to liberate the
island from the grip of the Ottomans.
